Family Business

Electrum. Lifeblood of the Cage. ‘Least that’s what Monto Kane has been selling to any berk that’ll take a listen in the cage for the past thirty years. Truth is Electrum is still the bastard child of the precious metal family, and thirty years of Monto’s attempts to make it mainstream has only just managed to keep it on the commodity markets in Sigil and beyond.

The Kane Family has managed a decent living in the Lower Ward by being the oldest running Electrum mining and prospecting company around. Mondo’s connections to some rather lucrative prime material Electrum mines has kept his business afloat, however he’s never managed to get any of the notoriety (or wealth) of the other precious metal suppliers. Kane’s also managed to keep his name fairly well respected in the Cage, known by most to be on the up-and-up. He’s never been one to shy away from a fight however, and dozens of fly-by-night Electrum importers and gangs of thugs have made the mistake of interfering with the Kane Clan. He’s lived the past 30 years in the Cage with his wife and children, and pulls no punches when it comes to their livelihood.

About a year and a half ago, Monto stumbled across a new Electrum mine somewhere other than the Prime. He’s kept this information quite close to his chest, and only a few members of the Kane family are not in the dark about his plans. Word is stirring in the Ward that he’s spending money like he had it, and he’s stepping up operations like Electrum is going to become the new Copper. Who knows if he’s finally on to something after 30 years, or if this is just one final try to get himself and his family out of the gutters.
