Episode 009: Cyanwrath
Campaign Date: Uktar 2, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, December 8, 2018

Episode Recap:
The heroes watched the abandoned camp from atop the plateau until they were satisfied the cave was the only area still occupied. They descended into the camp, defeated the entrance guards and proceeded inside. Deep within the cavern complex, the adventurers encountered and attacked a group of kobolds. As the skirmish wore on, the half-blue dragon, Langdedrosa Cyanwrath appeared and demanded everyone to stand down! When he realized Baltrex was among the intruders, Cyanwrath challenged the barbarian to an honorable fight to the death. Baltrex accepted.

Langdedrosa led the companions and kobolds to a large cavern that contained a shrine dedicated to Tiamat. Two berserkers, warriors thirsty for battle, stood within the cavern and a padlocked, wooden chest rested on the floor beneath a carved image of a five-headed dragon. Cyanwrath and Baltrex moved to the center of the cave and as the first blows were thrown, Balamin bashed the chest’s padlock with his quarterstaff. A berserker charged the monk, and this drew everyone into the fight!

Nym’s Moonbeam spell decimated the kobolds while Delg and Balamin squared off against the berserkers. When the last berserker fell, Cyanwrath pressed his assault on the battered heroes. The half-dragon cut down the adventurers one by one; first Delg, then Balamin, and finally Baltrex until only Nym remained. The druid’s magic was depleted so Nym made a final, desperate swing with his quarterstaff. His blow stuck the side of Cyanwrath’s head squarely. The half-dragon stiffened and fell lifeless to the ground!

Nym rushed to Baltrex’s side and stabilized the dying barbarian but unfortunately, Delg and Balamin were already gone. Angry and frustrated, Baltrex finished what Balamin began and bashed the padlock from the chest. Inside he discovered jewelry, gems and a leather case that contained a scroll. Nym assumed the shape of a bear and carried his fallen comrades, as well as the chest, back to Greenest.

At the temple to Chauntea, Nym and Baltrex implored Eadyan to help their friends. Unfortunately, magic powerful enough to bring the dead back to life was beyond the priest’s ability. Disheartened, Nym handed Eadyan the scroll from the chest with the slim hope it could somehow help. The priest unrolled the parchment and gasped in amazement! It contained the Raise Dead spell! Eadyan swallowed hard, looked at Baltrex and Nym, and said “This won’t be easy and there’s a good chance I’ll not perform it correctly. If that happens, the spell will fade without effect. What do you want me to do?”

Episode 008: Daring Rescue
Campaign Date: Marpenoth 27-Uktar 2, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, November 10, 2018

Episode Recap:
The heroes spent the next two days in Greenest following the raiders’ attack. They rested, helped with the cleanup, and discussed their next course of action. The companions also met a young monk named Nesim Waladra whose master disappeared while they defended the temple. Nesim believed his master was alive but was unsure of his whereabouts.

The adventurers followed the raiders’ trail a dozen miles to the southeast where they found their camp located inside a hollow plateau. The heroes climbed the plateau, surveilled the area, and discovered hundreds of kobolds, mercenaries, and cultists within the camp. The companions also noticed a cave opening set into the inner wall of the plateau as well as a large, well-guarded tent that housed the cult’s leaders; Rezmir, Frulam, and Langdedrosa. Finally, they spotted a lone captive tied to a stake steadfastly watched over by cultists.

Under the cover of darkness, Nym descended into the camp, disguised himself as a cultist, and calmly relieved the captive’s guard of his post. The druid then untied the prisoner, transformed into a giant spider and carried him to the top of the plateau. Within minutes of Nym’s return, the camp’s alarm sounded. The adventurers fled into the darkness, armed only with Delg’s darkvision to guide them through the night. A few hours later, the heroes were back in Greenest within the safety of the keep.

The rescued captive, Leosin Erlanthar, was the master of a small sect of monks that included Nesim. Leosin told the companions he’d tracked the cult’s activity for months and determined Greenest was a likely target for their next attack. He was correct. After the attack, Leosin fell in with the raiders while they withdrew. Rezmir, the half-black dragon wearer of purple, spotted him after the sun came up, and the monk was quickly overpowered and captured. Leosin had been severely beaten by the cultists and was near death when the adventurers rescued him.

When Leosin was well enough to travel, he informed the heroes he was headed north to the city of Elturel to relay what he’d learned about the cult to a paladin of Torm named Ontharr Frume. Before Leosin departed, he requested that the companions return to the camp and watch for signs of another raid. The adventurers agreed and when they arrived at the cultists’ camp, they found it almost completely abandoned.

Episode Highlights:
  • Castellan Escobert gave Delg his grandfather’s holy symbol. He too was a priest of Berronar Truesilver.

NPCs Introduced:
  • Nesim Waladra (early 20s human male): Student of Leosin Erlanthar.

Episode 007: Night of Nights
Campaign Date: Marpenoth 26-27, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, October 20, 2018

Episode Recap:
The heroes narrowly defeated the cult forces attacking the rear of the temple and then Nym convinced a young woman inside to open the back door. The companions entered the smoke-filled temple where two dozen terrified women, children and elderly civilians looked to the priest, Eadyan Falconmoon, for direction. Cultists assaulted the front doors with a battering ram while four men, dressed in simple robes and carrying quarterstaffs and longbows, resolutely held them back. The adventurers, with Eadyan’s help, escorted the civilians out the back door and led them to safety within the fortress.

Atop the keep, Governor Nighthill and Castellan Escobert surveyed the situation. Fires burned everywhere but the chaos that followed the initial attack had become more orderly; cultists methodically filled horse drawn wagons with anything of value they could find. It was evident that the raiders were in Greenest to loot the town and didn’t intend to assault the keep. Nighthill wanted answers and to that end, he asked the heroes to capture a cult officer for questioning.

The companions agreed and set off for the mill where a small command post had been established. The adventurers used a shallow creek as cover to make their way to the mill where a cult officer, a dragonwing, directed the plundering in the area. Nym took on the appearance of the cult’s half-blue dragon commander and lured the dragonwing to him. The heroes pulled the unsuspecting officer into the creek and held her underwater until she stopped struggling. The companions had their prisoner!

Back at the keep, Balamin interrogated the dragonwing. The intimidated officer confessed that the cult was amassing a horde of treasure “worthy of the Queen of Dragons” and that the black faction of the cult was led by someone named Rezmir. The dragonwing then revealed that the raiders’ camp was located a dozen miles southeast of Greenest and it was rumored that Rezmir had a clutch of dragon eggs under heavy guard in a cave at the camp she intended to hatch!

As morning approached and the looting tapered, the half-blue dragon general, Langdedrosa Cyanwrath, approached the keep. He had with him four civilian prisoners and demanded a champion to come forth in exchange for them. Baltrex stepped forward and accepted the challenge. The exhausted barbarian was no match for the mighty Cyanwrath and was ultimately stuck down. As Baltrex laid unconscious at Langdedrosa’s feet, the half-dragon sliced open the helpless barbarian’s cheek. Then, just before sunrise, Cyanwrath and the cultists departed Greenest with their heavily laden wagons.

Episode Highlights:
  • In the temple to Chauntea, Balamin attempted to convince the four robed men to escape with him. They refused.
  • Delg’s darkvision allowed the adventurers to covertly travel around Greenest under the cover of darkness.
  • Nym secured the capture of the dragonwing by transforming into a bear and pressing the cultist against the creek bed.
  • During his battle with Cyanwrath, Baltrex defiantly recited the name of each man under his command murdered by the half-dragon over a decade ago.

NPCs Introduced:
  • Eadyan Falconmoon (middle aged half-elf male): Priest of Chauntea at the temple in Greenest.
  • Frulam Mondath (human female): Cult of the Dragon commander of the raid on Greenest.
  • Langdedrosa Cyanwrath (half-blue dragon male): Cult of the Dragon military general.
  • Rezmir (unknown race female): Leader of the black faction of the Cult of the Dragon.

PC Notes:
  • Baltrex’s silver medallion signifying his military rank within the Turmish army is in Langdedrosa’s possession.

Episode 006: Greenest in Flames
Campaign Date: Eleasis 29-Marpenoth 26, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, September 15, 2018

Episode Recap:
The heroes arrived in Baldur’s Gate and said farewell to Keelin, Gier and their employer for the past 49 days, Quinn, who gladly paid them for their service. The companions celebrated Balamin’s 11th birthday with a feast generously paid for by Delg. During the celebration, Baltrex met a merchant who mentioned that many small communities to the south and east of Baldur’s Gate had recently been raided by the Cult of the Dragon; each picked clean of their valuables.

The adventurers left Baldur’s Gate and set out for the town of Greenest. Late in the evening on the 26th of Marpenoth, they found Greenest under attack by cultists, mercenaries, kobolds and a blue dragon! The heroes rushed into the besieged town and headed toward a stronghold situated atop a small hill near the center of town. On their way, the companions came upon a young family pursued by a pack of bloodthirsty kobolds. The adventurers dispatched the reptilian creatures, rescued the family and then made their way to the garrison.

Inside the fortress, the heroes met a pair of individuals in charge of Greenest; Governor Nighthill and the dwarven castellan named Escobert the Red. They were shocked by the sudden attack and desperately sought to understand why. The companions, accompanied by the governor and castellan, surveyed the town from atop the keep and noticed a stately female dressed in purple robes overseeing the attack. She was accompanied by a half-blue dragon warrior and a dozen or more well-armored kobolds.

Governor Nighthill observed an enemy force bearing down on the temple to Chauntea and begged the adventurers to help. The keep was surrounded but Escobert recalled an old, unused tunnel beneath the fortress that led to a stream to the southeast. The heroes used this tunnel to exit the stronghold and make their way to the temple where they battled cultists and kobolds attempting to burn it down.

Episode Highlights:
  • While in Baldur’s Gate, Baltrex wrote a note to Amara inquiring if the bandit showed up. He paid a caravan guard heading north to Neverwinter 5 gp to deliver it.
  • Balamin spent a few days at a shrine to Bahamut in Baldur’s Gate. While there he learned that a month ago, a small group of monks led by a half-elf named Leosin Erlanthar was in Baldur’s Gate asking questions regarding dragon cults.

  • Governor Tarbaw Nighthill (early 60’s human male): Governs Greenest.
  • Castellan Escobert the Red (middle aged shield dwarf male with knotted, tangled, bright red hair): Master of the keep.

Episode 005: High Road Trouble
Campaign Date: Midsummer Holiday & Eleasis 1-29, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, August 25, 2018

Episode Recap:

The heroes returned to Oakhurst where they learned that Erky had found Sharwyn and Bradford, the young male and female supplicants of the Gulthias Tree, wandering aimlessly outside of the Lost Citadel and escorted them home. The adventurers gave Talgen’s signet ring to his grieving mother, Kerowyn Hucrele, who kindly rewarded the companions for their efforts. Mayor Vurnor Leng thanked the heroes who in return assured him that no threats remained within the citadel. The following day, the adventurers, accompanied by their gnome friend, Erky, returned to Neverwinter.

In Neverwinter, the companions dealt with Delg’s seedy “friend” who had threatened Amara’s Orphanage. Then, at Baltrex’s request, the heroes prepared to travel to a small town southeast of Baldur’s Gate called Greenest. The adventurers secured employment, with Erky’s assistance, as escorts for a wealthy merchant named Quinn Maras. Quinn had some cargo he needed delivered to Baldur’s Gate and didn’t want to wait for a caravan to assemble. The companions, Quinn, and his loyal bodyguards; twin brothers named Keelin and Gier, left Neverwinter and began their long journey southward.

Just north of Carnath’s Roadhouse, on the eastern edge of the Mere of Dead Men, the heroes were confronted by bandits which they easily drove off. Then, a few days south of Waterdeep, the adventurers battled a hungry hill giant and its dire wolf pet. Later that night, the companions’ camp was beset by cultists determined to kidnap Balamin. The abduction was thwarted, the cultists defeated, and the heroes arrived safely in Daggerford the following day.

Episode Highlights:
  • Kerowyn Hucrele, Sharwyn and Talgen’s mother, rewarded the companions with 125 gp.
  • In Neverwinter, Balamin researched the symbology from the dragon shrines within the Lost Citadel and discovered it pertained to the Cult of the Dragon. He also learned that the cult has been very active recently along the Sword Coast.
  • Balamin generously donated 58 gp and a potion of healing to Amara’s Orphanage.
  • Baltrex learned that someone named Cyanwrath was assembling mercenaries and sell-swords in a small town named Greenest. Apparently, Cyanwrath had a large shipment to transport and needed a sizable force to secure its delivery.
  • In Waterdeep, Delg met a dwarven scholar who informed him the cryptex was of dwarven origin. Upon careful inspection and meticulous research, the scholar believed the runes indicated it was from Clan Hammerstriker.
  • In Waterdeep, Balamin discovered a rundown shine to Bahamut maintained by an aging dragonborn named Fayal. Balamin gave Fayal 43 gp to help with the shrine’s upkeep.
  • During the attempted abduction of Balamin, the cultists insisted the gold dragonborn not be hurt and was to be delivered intact.

NPCs Introduced:
  • Quinn Maras (early 60’s human Turmish male): Merchant with cargo to be delivered to Baldur’s Gate.
  • Keelin Banis (mid 40’s human male): Quinn’s bodyguard and Gier’s twin brother.
  • Gier Banis (mid 40’s human male): Quinn’s bodyguard and Keelin’s twin brother.
  • Adwan (late 20’s human male): Captain of the bandits that tried to rob Quinn and the adventurers.
  • Fayal (70’s dragonborn male): Caretaker of a shrine to Bahamut in Waterdeep.

Episode 004: Dragon Doors
Campaign Date: Flamerule 30 & Midsummer Holiday 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, July 28, 2018

Episode Recap:
The heroes were unable to wake the unconscious male and female by shaking them or using magic, so they fed them the fruit from the Gulthias Tree and waited. Their efforts appeared to have no effect, so after an uneventful 8-hour rest, the companions bound the pair and set off to investigate a few unexplored areas before heading back to Oakhurst.

The adventurers came upon another stone door with a rearing dragon carved into it. This time, instead of a keyhole situated in the dragon's open mouth, the carving featured an image of a small, curled up dragon. Delg withdrew the crystal whistle they found a few days earlier and hesitantly put it to his lips. He drew in a deep breath, pushed the air through the whistle and fell to the floor coughing and retching. When the heroes turned their attention back to the door, they noticed it had disappeared! The small room beyond contained a strange, tattered Cult of the Dragon banner, a rusted statue of a five-headed dragon and a metallic cylinder with a half-dozen movable rings. The metallic cylinder and each of the rings were inscribed with dwarven runes.

Following a lengthy trek into the Underdark in pursuit of a fleeing bugbear, the adventurers returned to the druid’s cavern and discovered the young male and female were no longer there. The heroes made their way back to the first dragon door and used the key from Yusdrayl’s treasure to open it. Beyond the door they faced several traps protecting an ancient burial chamber containing a large sarcophagus adorned with dragon imagery. The companions opened the sarcophagus and defeated the dragonpriest troll entombed within while his quasit guardian disappeared and presumably fled.

Episode 003: The Gulthias Tree
Campaign Date: Flamerule 29-30, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, July 7, 2018

Episode Recap:
As the adventurers attempted to recuperate, angry goblins and their hobgoblin superiors harassed them repeatedly. The heroes prepared themselves for a full force attack, but one never came. While exploring goblin territory, the companions battered through a door that led into the kobold chieftain’s throne room. The kobolds defended their chieftain Yusdrayl and secured her escape despite taking heavy casualties. With the kobolds defeated, the adventurers eagerly removed the large metallic key from the jaws of the rearing dragon carving!

The heroes considered their options and decided to press on through the goblin infested portion of the citadel in search of the enchanted fruit the goblins were rumored to possess. The adventurers confronted the goblin leader, a nasty hobgoblin named Durnn, and defeated him along with his entourage. Durnn’s chamber held a circular shaft that pierced the floor and from it shined dim violet light. The walls of the nearly 100’ deep shaft were coated with strange white and gray vines which provided the companions with an easy means of descent.

The adventurers discovered a huge cavern in which a grove of sickly trees grew among a ruined structure. In the distance, a blackened, twisted tree bearing a large, ruby-red apple reached upward like a skeletal hand. Standing before the tree were three figures; a young male and female whose eyes were black, and their skin was gray with the texture of bark, and a middle-aged bearded druid. The druid spoke reverently about the Gulthias Tree and he informed the heroes they would make excellent supplicants. The companions overcame the druid and his allies by destroying the Gulthias Tree with showers of radiant fire from Delg’s Sacred Flame. The enchanted fruit was harvested, and the adventurers turned their attention to the young male and female that fought beside the druid.

Episode Highlights:
  • Balamin, Baltrex, Delg and Nym advanced to 3rd level

NPCs Introduced:
  • Durnn (male hobgoblin): Chief of the Durbuluk tribe

Campaign Date: Flamerule 29, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, May 26, 2018

Episode Recap:
Meepo, the kobold Keeper of Dragons, led the heroes into goblin territory. Beyond a sealed doorway the adventurers found an obsidian altar with an image of a five-headed dragon carved into it. Atop the altar sat a burning candle and a small whistle. After defeating the sanctuary’s skeletal guardians, Baltrex gleefully destroyed the altar at Balamin’s request. Delg pocketed the whistle, even after Balamin warned him it was undoubtedly evil.

The companions battled a few small groups of goblins, the most dramatic of which involved Balamin’s 20’ leap over a caltrop filled hallway! The monk landed atop a low wall and dispatched a pair of goblins on the opposite side. The heroes found a gnome named Erky Timbers locked in a cage that was much too small, even for him. After several failed attempts to free the gnome, Nym strapped the cage to his back and Erky made the best of the bumpy ride.

Inside a grisly trophy room, the adventurers encountered a white dragon wyrmling. Meepo was overjoyed to see the creature but the wyrmling didn’t share in the kobold’s elation. The dragon exhaled a blast of frigid breath and froze the surprised Meepo solid! The companions defeated the wyrmling but decided to make camp and tend to their wounds before pressing onward

Episode 001: Keeper of Dragons
Campaign Date: Flamerule 27-29, 1489 DR
Adventure Date: Saturday, April 28, 2018

Episode Recap:
The adventurers traveled to the village of Oakhurst, a day’s ride northeast of Neverwinter. On their way, they were attacked by a pair of plant creatures called twig blights. Baltrex recalled some lore regarding these creatures (see Notes below) and shared it with his companions.

The heroes visited with a few of the locals and heard rumors of a ruined fortress deep within a large crevasse northwest of the village. They made the 2-hour journey to the chasm and descended into its depths. They found an old citadel within and began exploring the ruins. Once inside, they discovered a locked stone door with a rearing dragon carved into it. The door had a single keyhole situated in the dragon's open mouth, but they were unable to get past it.

Later, the adventurers met a kobold named Meepo, the “Keeper of Dragons”, who claimed Endret, his clan's dragon, had been stolen by goblins. When the companions hinted at finding Endret, Meepo insisted they meet his chieftain. The chieftain, a female kobold named Yusdrayl, and the adventurers negotiated a deal; the companions would retrieve the clan’s dragon and in return, the kobolds would give them a few of their “treasures” which sat upon a crumbling altar. Above the altar, the heroes noticed a carving of a rearing dragon; a metallic key held firmly in the dragon's jaws. Yusdrayl offered to have Meepo guide the party and the heroes accepted.

Episode Highlights:
  • Delg, Baltrex, Balamin and Nym advanced to 2nd level.

NPCs Introduced:
  • Garon (middle-aged human male): Owner of the Ol’ Boar Inn.
  • Vurnor Leng (60ish human male): Mayor of Oakhurst.
  • Felosial (30ish female half-elf): Oakhurst constable.
  • Meepo (male kobold warrior): The “Keeper of Dragons”.
  • Yusdrayl, (female kobold): Chieftain of the Gabarang clan.

PC Notes:
Blights
  • Awakened plants gifted with the powers of intelligence and mobility. A blight carries out the will of ancient evil and attempts to spread that evil wherever it can.
  • Legends tell of a vampire named Gulthias who worked terrible magic and raised up an abominable tower called Nightfang Spire. Gulthias was undone when a hero plunged a wooden stake through his heart, but as the vampire was destroyed, his blood infused the stake with a dreadful power. Tendrils of new growth sprouted from the wood, growing into a tree infused with the vampire's evil essence. From this Gulthias tree came the seeds from which the first blights were sown.
  • Blights act under a Gulthias tree's control.
