Background:
Jack Harkness was born on Londinum to John and AnnaBelle Harkness. His father(a retired alliance sargent-major) was a security guard at The Londinum Museum and his mother was a secretary for a low level bureaucrat in the division of waste management. Growing up, his mother read him tales of King Arthur and his knights of the round table, giving him a foundation of chivalry and honor. He aspired to be like the knights in his mother’s tales and that formed a basis for the man he would be. An honorable man who did the right thing and would never lie. At 24 he applied for OCS with the Alliance military. The war had already been raging for a year by that time and Jack wanted to “serve his country” as it were. Six months later, he finished his training and served as a young lieutenant in several battles. He fought in the battle of Serenity Valley where his commanding officer was killed. Being the ranking officer, the job of command fell to him. He managed to complete his unit’s objective and get most of his unit out alive while only suffer a couple of minor wounds himself. His valor on the battlefield their earned him a promotion to Captain.

After the war, Jack served in whatever location the Alliance sent him to. At one of those duty stations, he met and fell in love with a young woman named Angela Rose. Miss Rose was a single mother of a 6-year-old girl named Lorrie Beth Rose. Lorrie took a liking to Jack and called him “Uncle” Jack. Over the next 3 years, Angela and Jack enjoyed there time together and eventually became engaged. After a while, Angela got tired of trying to get Jack to set a date and gave him an ultimatum. It was either her, or the military. Though it broke Jack’s heart, he chose the military and let Angela go to live her life, knowing that his chosen career wasn’t the life style for her. Jack hasn’t heard from Angela for about 4 years, though he did have a brief encounter with Lorrie Beth recently.

He was stationed at a research facility and was the OIC of the contingent of Alliance security personnel . While on a patrol, checking on his men, a young girl came running out of a room, followed by a man in a lab coat yelling “Grab her! Restrain her!!”. Jack grabbed the girl and returned the girl with the help of two of his men. Something about the girl struck him as odd, however, and he did some checking. He was able to find the girls name and discovered that it was Lorrie Beth, the daughter of his ex-fiancee, Angela. Upon making this discovery, he attempted to get Lorrie Beth out, but found that she had been moved to a new location off planet. The encounter with Lorrie Beth caused Jack to wonder exactly what was going on. He wasn’t able to find out, but over the next few months, he got the idea that there was more to this research facility than he thought. He also started to realize that perhaps the Alliance had been lying to him all this time. He began to resent the Alliance and decided to leave the military. He decided to head for the rim worlds and try to gain more information and, maybe, get a group together to help him find Lorrie Beth and take down the Alliance.
Details:
1. Your name is? (Why is this your name? How did you get it? Any nicknames or titles?)
Jack Harkness. My name is actually John Harkness Jr., but I’ve always been called Jack. I’m also known as “Handsome” Jack, or “Captain” Jack in official circumstances.

2. What do you look like? (How old are you and how old do you appear to be?)
I’m 35 years old and look to be in my early 30’s. I’m a good looking man. I’m 6 feet tall with dark hair and blue eyes.

3. What is your style and attitude? (how do you dress and talk? Are you cultured or backbirth?)
I usually wear my alliance trousers because they are comfortable, my alliance boots because they are broken in, a blue button up shirt, and a ballistic mesh lined black duster. I’m not what one would call “cultured” but I’m not exactly “backbirth” either. I’m somewhere in between.

4. Do you have and quirks we should know about?
I am a bit prejudiced against the Alliance. I don’t blame the soldiers for doing their jobs, but I don’t much care for them. Strange for an ex-alliance soldier, I know, but there are reasons. I don’t lie. I’ve tried to, to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, but they knew anyway, so I just don’t bother to try to lie anymore.

5. What kind of impression do you think you first make?
I think people see me as confident on first impressions.

6. Where do you hail from? (Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was your childhood and youth like? What does your family think about you?)
I was born on Londinum where I grew up a good Alliance citizen. My parents don’t think much of me since I left the military and stopped believing the propaganda.

7. What is your best quality as a person? (what is your worst quality as a person?)
Loyalty is my best quality. My worst is that I tend to go a bit nuts when I’m wounded.

8. Describe your personality in only 2 words.
Horney Killer

9. Describe your favorite things and your least favorite things. (foods, drinks, books, music, assault rifles, etc.)
Good food, good drink, and pretty women. My least favorite things are people who prey on the weak and innocent.

10. They say you can judge a man by the enemies he makes and the friends he keeps. Who is your “Nemesis” and who are your allies?
My nemesis is the Alliance. As for my friends, I burned most of those bridges.

11. What is your romantic life like? (orientation? A virgin? Has there been “a great love”?)
There has been one “great love”. Angela Rose. Though, since our relationship ended, I’ve merely depended on my charms to keep my bed warm at night.

12. What do you fear? (Do you have reoccurring nightmares or dreams?)
That the Alliance will win and put an end to freedom across the ‘Verse.

13. Who do you look up to? (If there isn’t anyone now, was there someone in the past?)
My father. Even though we aren’t exactly on speaking terms right now, I still know he is a good man and a good role model.

14. What offer would be irresistible enough for you to betray your friends or crewmates?
The location of Lorrie Beth Rose.

15. What principal matters to you most?
Honor

16. What is your most treasured possession? Why?
The “Dress” dagger my mother had made for me. It is an exact, scale replica of Excalibur.

17. Who do you value most in all the ‘Verse?
Angela and Lorrie Beth Rose.

18. What are your ambitions? (What are your social, professional, and romantic goals? What do you wish you could do that you can’t?)
I wish I could go back in time and fight for the browncoats.

19. Where do you picture yourself 20 years from now?
On a horse ranch with Angela and Lorrie Beth, out on the rim where a man can be free.

20. What other kinds of work have you done to pay the bills?
I’ve been a soldier most of my life, though now that I’m out, I’ve signed on with a cargo ship crew.

21. What are your political and religious beliefs, if you have any? (Do you have any prejudices?)
I am a good Catholic boy. I am pro-freedom and anti-suppression.

22. What were you doing during the Unification War? (How has the war affected you? Did you serve in the war? Which side? Did you lose anyone you cared about in the war?)
I was an officer in the alliance military.

23. Do you have any hobbies? (how do you pass the time away?)
I clean and maintain my weapons. And occasionally if I can find some suck….uh..I mean players, I play poker.

24. What event in your life that you did are you most proud of? Most shameful of?
I’m most proud of finally seeing the light and turning my back on the Alliance. I’m most shameful of having served them faithfully and to the best of my ability for so many years.

25. What have you been doing the last few months?
Trying to get away from the core worlds and out to the Rim while tracking down any leads I can find on Lorrie Beth’s location.

26. If you the player could give your character a piece of advice, what would it be?
You can’t save the whole Gorram ‘Verse, Jack!!!
