Here's a recap of the last couple sessions.
On their way to the Mausoleum of Karavakos, they encountered a group of eladrin being slaughtered by foulspawn. After the battle ended, it was revealed that the eladrin were led by Aran, Martouk's own son! Aran is working for the Lady of Winter in the Feywild, investigating reports of increased Shadowfell presence int he Nentir Vale. Aran leads the party to the Mausoleum and departs—he must report to his Mistress.
The party descends into the tomb and battles mummies, rot scarabs and possessing ghosts. Deeper in, they encounter a cult of Orcus and several undead. The cult is performing a ritual, one meant to turn Sevrid's brother Thorvald into a vampire! The cult is successful, but the spirit of Karavakos himself repels the vampire and the party departs, with great riches.
Seeking to warn Lord Gaius Mirti of the vampire Thorvald, and also to investigate any involvement Gaius may have had with the Orcus cult, the party goes to the Mirti estate. There, they discover a disused shrine to Bahamut, have dinner with Gaius, and are poisoned with a mind-affecting drug that causes Caledath to become temporarily insane. This proves to be a disadvantage when the vampire seductresses come to make the party into dessert.
Destroying the vampires, including their leader, a powerful vampiress with a siren's song, they search the manor for Gaius, or anyone else for that matter. They find a woman barricaded in the pantry, mourning her lost husband and hoping simply to survive. Her husband was a sculptor, forced by Gaius to enter the old ruins underneath the manor and build a gate to somewhere Outside. The siren vampiress was his muse. It seems the manor was once a keep for the Order of St. Yurathis, a knightly order dedicated to Bahamut.
The party finds the secret gate to the underground ruins, and bypass the ward protecting it, albeit with great and punishing difficulty. After traversing a collapsed section of downward stairs, they come to a room where a large group of maddened kobolds awaited them. Though they surrounded Veera, the party managed to slaughter the gibbering creatures.
The next room was far more difficult. A band of foulspawn awaited them, and their madness was contagious, causing Kravaxsaar to strike Sevrid! When the grell entered the fray and felled Sevrid, all seemed lost, but a timely healing potion for the fallen warlord brought him back with a vengeance. Crying out for the glory of Erathis and the Northern Tribe, Sevrid led the group to destroy the grell and reverse the rout into a clear victory. Unfortunately it seems things went exactly according to plan for the mind flayer trapped in the portal to the Far Realm at the end of the room...
