Forums Group Campaign Posting

I found myself just posting the same info on my group forum and on my campaign forum.

I wonder if anyone else has a want or a need to post the same thing in both forums.

Maybe if there was a check box when creating a thread that say mirror in campaign ( or group if in the campaign ) and a drop down for the campaign ( if multiple ).

I have more people in my group forum than the campaign forum and it could be reversed.

Just a thought, not sure if it's a good or bad thought.

This seems like a fairly specific need, although I can see the usefulness. I will put it on my to-do list, but unless we get a few other chiming in here, it'll be fairly low priority.

I have been thinking about this for a bit.

Here is the scenario:

List of Forums

[Gaming Group Forums]
Lake County Gaming

[Campaign Forums]
Dark Sun 4e
Dune Scattering
Mystara 4e
Pathfinder - Across the Empires (Jake)
Pathfinder - Gathering of the Gods (Caylon)
World of Darkness
World of Darkness - Fantasy
World of Darkness - Trinity

Granted some of the campaigns are not yet active but we are working on them a bit...

[Sample Forum Posts]

DMs Keep - Ultimate DM’s Screen
http://epicwords.com/forums/2660
I would post to gaming group and all 4e forums and Pathfinder.

Heroes of Shadow & The Shadowfell
http://epicwords.com/forums/2607
I would post to gaming group and all 4e forums.

Pathfinder Intro Box Cover
http://epicwords.com/forums/2658
I would have posted this to the gaming group and all Pathfinder games.

What has Dune started?
http://epicwords.com/forums/2645
I would have posted this to the gaming group, Dune and Darksun.

If we could have a list of the forums tied to the GM or User with check marks that allows these posts to appear in multiple forums, would seem like a nice way and a neat direction.

As a player I could post 4e items in another GMs game forums and my own game. As a GM or Player I could post Pathfinder products that I think are cool in both pathfinder campaigns. I could almost always include the above posts in the gaming group for people that have joined the group but not the campaign, maybe they are on the border. As it stands now my campaign forums have all the activity and my gaming group forum has been all but abandoned. Seems two complicated to maintain both unless there is some type of list to include forum posts in multiple forums.

Maybe also a select all button.

I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks and wanted to gather my thoughts before I made the post. I would imagine this is slightly complicated but it could have long term rewards. It would be interesting to see the ratio of forums activity between gaming group and related campaigns.

I hope I have explained well enough running on 4 hours of sleep with back to back work shifts.

I think I see what you're saying. Some of this can be accomplished by posting to the campaign settings and rule systems forums. For example:

http://www.epicwords.com/rule_systems/forums/53
We have been talking about trying to promote these inter-campaign forums more within campaigns. These are under-used features of EW. Mostly because I don't think people know they exist.

This is a good idea. I can see this being part of a users's profile.

Agreed. My only concern with this sort of feature is an organizational one. If a copy of a thread appears in both places, then managing replies will get overwhelming. I have some idea on how this might be managed, though. It could get a bit complicated, but we'll see...

I just went and looked. I did not realize there was rule setting forums.

I would not see myself spending time there.

I meant gaming group forum. We use the gaming group as the spring board for the 8 campaigns tied under it. I would view the gaming group as the top hierarchy and the campaigns one step down.

My hope is that it is not a replication of the forum thread, but a displaying of the one thread in multiple locations. I would guess that the true location of thread lies where it was originally posted. Example I post the new 4e products in my Mystara 4e game while clicking the gaming group thread, and the Dark Sun 4e thread. They can be viewed, quoted, etc from any of the three forums while the forum ID or Key resides in the original campaign (Mystara 4e).

Not sure how any of the technical works here. I know access databases and how ID/Keys relate but not sure if this works similar.

I really appreciate you even reading, discussing and considering this thread.

This makes sense to me. There is already a mechanic for including a campaign within a gaming group, so it might not be unreasonable for the forums in a campaign to be listed within the group. The only issue may be one of permissions. By default, only the member of a campaign can view the campaign forum. Perhaps there needs to be another level of permissions that opens it up to the gaming groups it belongs to.
