This is another reason I'm not as gung ho about dynamic character sheet here at epic words. Don't get me wrong: I love the idea. I just don't think it's such an urgent necessity. I'd rather have some of the other features listed in this thread implemented sooner.

Re: dynamic character sheets

My opinion on the matter is that there are so many other good free products available online, that another one here probably isn't necessary. My players usually just puts some basic info here then a link to the other online resource at the bottom.

What I REALLY want to see is BBCODE with more options like nesting lists, nesting tables and things that allow a better presentation of data, like tables with formatting options.

Making another dynamic character sheet seems like re-inventing the wheel, an ever-changing, really hard to make wheel. The cost to benefit seems a bit disproportional and the time could probably be best spent on other basic stuff to make this site better.

Sure there's always the cool factor to consider, but I fear this project could just be a time sinkhole where the result would make minimal impact on this site.

A couple of comments below regarding dynamic character sheet resources:

Well, docs.google.com or private wikis (tiddlywiki.com is one of my favorites) could be easily be used to store character sheets online. But there are also many other ones, some more specialized, some multi-purpose. Here's what I found with a 10 minute google search:
  • iplay4e.appspot.com (currently integrated into epicwords).
  • www.thetangledweb.net/forums/content.php?114-character-sheets-for-rpg&s=1f84158d9a5f3fa71aabdffdabeefb38
  • http://forums.white-wolf.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=53192
  • http://www.infinitepersonae.com/
  • http://mrgone.rocksolidshells.com/

  • iplay4e.appspot.com (currently integrated into epicwords).
  • I am an avid user of iplay4e for 4th edition in conjunction with EpicWords. This is great however I still desire a dynamic sheet for EpicWords and let me be clear I want it for the fluff and the crunch as well. Iplay4e is amazing for crunch but not as much for fluff and of course limited to 4e which I am not.

  • One of the most amazing character sheets on the market for 3.5/Pathfinder hands down. Of course only useful for those games.

  • I have an account and have several characters under the sheet section which are very well done! I think my problem here was a printable version? Any comments on how to print tabletop version is great. Our group uses EpicWords both online and tabletop.

  • Seems to have similar goals to EpicWords. I a having trouble finding my login info and reset but i do not remember being moved by the overall feel of how this site worked. That's just my opinion.

  • Wow his code Kung-fu is strong. This uber nice but a bit complicated for me and maybe some others. Love the integration with Mr Gone. The great aspect of EpicWords is a large portion of his is already built in, like XP.

  • I like it just made a login and I think some of what is here could be gleamed and useful for EpicWords dynamic sheets. I just created a login myself thanks.

  • I have a Logon, but not really for anything other the WOD.

  • An amazing WOD PDF resource site which I have used often. Not dynamic however and doesn't speak to the gaming freedom of EpicWords.

A site not mentioned that has great promise and should strongly looked at for Dynamic sheets is http://www.infrno.net/

Some of the great parts is that it supports from generic to specific game systems. The sheets are customizable and support printer friendly versions catering to both online and tabletop. I would love to see EpicWord study this model. Having said that the couple of times I used the sheets there are some bugs to work out.

Here is cheers to the continued success of EpicWords and the future. Thank you for the fantastic RPG site and host of tool you have given us.

Possibly you could just add a field in the character BIO section that hold a link to the character sheet on the user's website-of-choice, campaign file of the character sheet, journal post with the character data, or whatever.

It would be enough for me to simply have one place to go to find my players' character sheets. That place doesn't also need to host them. Bonus points for having a page with all the character sheet links in one place.

Wow, I second that. What a great idea!

Build a database of equipment tables from the most common game systems, so we can find weights and prices without having to look them up constantly.

Doesn't even have to be exact. "Potion, 3rd level" in Pathfinder are all 750 gp or some such, and a +1 weapon is around "2300 gp."

I think the plan was to build a mechanic where users can upload that sort of stuff per campaign. Maybe as part of the merchant stuff?

Ideally, only one of us would have to type it all up, and they can share it.

I'd advise waiting until we've got a "weight" field in the database before doing all that typing.

I want a die roller feature that determines a set result upon finalizing a forum post, much like over at Mythweavers. I wouldn't even bother visiting over there any longer if such a feature existed here.

    You mean like this?
    d20 => [15] = 15
Dice Rolls => Results = Total
    d20 => [15] = 15
